Serving 2014 On A Silver Platter

Hey guys!

I'm just quickly popping in here to show you what I'm actually wearing on this last day of 2013. As someone who is not big on neither Christmas nor New Year's, I prefer to keep things simple during those holidays. Not on my nails though!

May 2014 be your year.

[nail art] New Year's Eve? Again? Already?

Hey guys!

We're reaching the end of 2013, and thus I present to you a very simple nail art. More explanations further down, let's see it first!

The base is Barry M "Navy", the silver stripes were done with essie "No Place Like Chrome". I tried to also do stripes with Navy, but it wasn't as opaque as I thought, so that looks a little weird. I think I prefer the accent nail in plain silver - or chrome, if you insist. I was inspired to try this by Lucy, who never ceases to amaze me with her creations - plus I'm kinda jealous of her perfect nails. I guess you could also see this as a bit of a spin on the waterfall design by Sammy.

[nail art] not exactly a tree, but close enough (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

This week's theme for our wonderful series is fir green. And because I was in the mood to experiment a little, have a nail art thing that isn't quite a tree.

Two coats of Catrice "Hugo Moss" as base. The triangle is done with tape and nubar "Verde", which isn't so much verde really rather than gold. But I liked the look, and I hope you do too! Top coat smoothed everything out - including a few messed-up spots. Just to be 100% clear, I didn't come up with this design - it's on Pinterest in at least a million variations, and that's where I got the idea.

A belated merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates mainly on the 24th, and of course a merry Christmas to everyone celebrating today or later as well. I hope you're having a good time with loved ones.

Secret Santa

Hey guys!

End of November Lena had a glorious idea - a nail polish Secret Santa! Of course I had to join in on the fun. Each participant should send out five polishes they don't want to keep in their collection. There was pretty much only one rule: The polishes must not have any actual defects - they're just colors/finishes/formulas/etc., that you don't personally like. So today I wanna show you what I got!

Of course I read the card first. Look at that pretty tape! It's holographic! But now let's see what was in that bubble wrap...

My Secret Santa was so generous as to give me six polishes! Left to right, top to bottom: Max Factor - Intense Plum and Silver, LCN - Bold Bordeaux and Kosmetik Kosmo - Drachenzunge, essence - night in vegas and L'Oréal - Luxembourggarden

And here's a quick swatch of them (no top coat), except for Luxembourggarden, which I already owned. Two coats for all except Silver, and then I also put night in vegas over them, just to show the effect. I also already own night in vegas, but I'm really excited to have a backup of it!

All in all I wanna say a big thanks to Jessie, my (not so) Secret Santa! I - and that was surprising even for me - like all the polishes you sent me, and I'm especially thrilled about night in vegas, since I LOVE this topper. Thank you so much! Also I wanna give kudos to Lena for organizing this thing, I can imagine it was a lot to manage. I'm definitely looking forward to round two, which will be around March - maybe it'll be a Secret Easter Bunny? Though I think Easter is quite a bit later. Anyway, a big thanks to both of you! ♥

[Swatch] Catrice Limited Edition Feathers & Pearls - Running Wild

Hey guys!

I wanted to show this to you before it leaves stores again - I saw the articles from this LE reduced last week already so yeah, here's me panicking and trying to show you stuff in time.

Two coats with top coat. I kinda like it, but also don't really. The silver flecks are hardly visible in my opinion, I'd like it better if they were more obvious.

[Swatch] butter London - Pitter Patter (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

I'm not gonna go over my continued absence again, so let's just jump to the fun part, shall we? This week's theme is purple! Aaah, my favorite color. I just love it. And while I was pondering what polish to use I remembered a fairly recent purchase that fit the bill wonderfully, so here it is.

Two coats with top coat. I can't say that this is unique to my collection, but I also can't say that it's not a color I buy again and again. Pretty purples just get me every time, especially the ones with shimmer.

[Swatch] essence - redvolution (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

I feel bad for not posting as much lately. It seems I've lost my blogging mojo. I hope I can get it back soon... In the meantime, let's look at this week's color together - bright red!

Two coats, with top coat. It's not quite as orange as it looks here, but it's definitely bright and orange-y. I got this in a DM Box more than a year ago and didn't like it initially, but came to enjoy the brightness of it soon after.

[Swatch] essence - hard to resist (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

This week's theme is navy blue, and I have quite the beauty to show you, so let's get to it!

One coat, with top coat. Yep, ladies and gentlemen: This is a one-coater. I have to say that I applied a slightly thicker coat than I normally do. Why? Because I saw the potential of this polish to be a one-coater, so I left more polish on my brush than usual. This is beautiful, why haven't I worn it so far? I also (accidentally) bought a million of it, because it got kicked out of the product range and was on sale. I have three or four bottles of it now...

[Swatch] Rival de Loop Limited Edition perfect style - Perfect Pinky and Perfect Glamour

Hey guys!

I'm sorry I haven't posted as much as I "should have" last week, I've just not been feeling blogging much lately. Anyway, remember this? Today I'd like to show you the other two polishes in the LE, so let's get right into it!

Perfect Pinky

This is gold sparkle in a pink-berry-ish base. Really sheer. You'll need at least three or four coats, I can't quite recall how many I had on here. Shown with top coat.

Perfect Glamour

I would say this is a burned gold or an olive green with coppery flecks in it. Very interesting. Once again, you need three or four coats to get to the opacity you can see in the photos. Again, this is with top coat.

I quite like Perfect Glamour, whereas I'm not much into Perfect Pinky. Also, the fact that these are so incredibly sheer makes them kind of a fail for me.

misslyn - gold-plate (with P2 - precious as accent; Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

We're going right into the second round of my favorite blogging series with a seasonally very appropriate color - gold! Ever since I saw Lena show misslyn's copper rose, I knew I had to get the two satin metal polishes of the Hot Glam LE. So here's the first one I put on!

I think those are two coats, and I put P2's precious on my ring finger nail as an accent, since they just seemed to fit together perfectly. I didn't use top coat because I love the matt appearance of the satin metal finish.

[Swatch] essence Trend Edition Superheroes - super, man!

Hey guys!

From this recent/current LE I bought four polishes (leaving out the gold one), but most of the others I've seen around plenty, while few people seemed to show this one, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Two coats, I believe, with top coat. Here we have holographic particles in a silver metallic base. I'm torn between thinking it's cool and not really liking it. Also, for Superman I would have expected different colors. What are your thoughts on it?

[nail art] distressed gold

Hey guys!

So I recently thought I'd swatch misslyn "overknees" for you and put it on to take photos the next day. Incidentally, I had received a parcel containing, among others, "Honey Ryder" by OPI that same day. On a whim I decided to try to make a sort of gradient with it over the black texture polish - this is the result...

Two coats of overknees. I let it dry, then took Honey Ryder and wiped the brush on the bottle neck enough to make sure only a tiny amount of polish was remaining on the brush, then swiped it sort of haphazardly here and there, concentrating the color on the free edge of the nail and leaving more black visible towards the cuticle area. I sealed everything with top coat, but the slightly gritty textured remained pretty unperturbed by my attempt to make it smoother. This reminded me of a little wooden box that once had gold lacquer on it that got rubbed off with time. It's far from perfect, but I really liked how it looked, so I wanted to share!

[Swatch] models own - Rocket, Catherine Wheel, Dancing Queen, Banger, Boogie Nights (over black; Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

Today I'm making the last post for "Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!" - but only for round one! Thankfully, Cyw and Lena are loving the series just as much as us other participants, so they decided to start a second round, which will start immediately next Wednesday! I'm so glad we can continue this awesome series, because I really do love it. This week's theme is "bunt" - "colorful" - and I wanted this to be a bit of a bang, so I decided to go for a glitter rainbow. Let's check it out!

Rocket on thumb, Catherine Wheel on pointer finger, Dancing Queen on middle finger, Banger on ring finger, Boogie Nights on pinky finger. I wanted to fit the whole rainbow on five fingers, which was kinda hard, but thankfully all these glitters look really nice together. They actually all have a little bit of at least one other color mixed in with their main glitter color, which I think is very cool - and it was extremely useful to me! Models own sure makes some awesome glitter polishes...

essie - stroke of brilliance (over after school boy blazer)

Hey guys!

I cracked and got more of the essie "for the twill of it" collection... I admit it. I wore "after school boy blazer" for a day on its own, but just like every other polish, I had chips on the first day, so when I was patching it up later that day, I thought, hey, why not put "stroke of brilliance" over it? So that's what I did.

Two coats of "after school boy blazer" - it's very pigmented, if you are really careful you can make it perfect in one coat, but it'll have to be on the thicker side - and then one to two coats of "stroke of brilliance", top coat, tadah! I really liked this! In low light, "after school boy blazer" looks pretty much black, but it's in fact a very very dark navy kind of blue. What do you think of this combination?

[Swatch] Catrice Limited Edition Arts Collection - nail polishes

Hey guys!

Rembember when I promised to show you these? That's okay, I did. Sorry it took so long, I hope you can still find these if you want them. I've seen them around last week still so I think you should be able to get them.

Pinkroque

Two coats with top coat. Don't you love the bottle print? Anyway, this is a pink, with a little bit of silvery sparkle to it.

Forevergreen

Two coats with top coat. A nice green, again with a silvery tone to it.

Bronze-Deco

Two coats with top coat. A pretty gold tone, more on the orangey-brown, warm side of gold. I really like it more than expected!

Clinique - "Pink With A Purpose" limited lipstick set (2013)

Hey guys!

So as the majority of you will know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (and Depression Awareness Month, too!). Last year Clinique released a limited edition Chubby Stick shade (called plumped up pink), together with a little pouch. This year, they decided to go for a limited edition shade of their Almost Lipstick. Not gonna lie, I would've preferred another Chubby Stick, or a Chubby Stick Intense. Nevertheless, I got the set, just like last year - it cost EUR 19.99/USD ~27, of which ten go to a breast cancer awareness campaign. Of course I thought "Why not?". Then I got the parcel and... let's just say I'm a bit disappointed.

The lipstick comes in a skinny, mainly silver tube that has a pink ribbon print on it at the bottom. This, to me, is not an "almost lipstick", but an "almost nothing". I don't mind sheer color - otherwise I wouldn't like the Chubby Sticks so much. But this still disappointed me. If your lips are more pigmented than mine, good luck getting this to show up on them. Also, just like the Chubby Stick from last year, this has silver sparkle in it, which I'm not too big a fan of. The shade name is Pink Ribbon Honey, by the way. The second disappointment was the little pouch. From the online store pictures, i thought it would be a sturdy, flat little pouch, which it is absolutely not. If you want pictures of it let me know. The set is still available if you're interested in getting it. I guess at least I donated to charity...

[Swatch] Catrice - Apropos Apricot (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

Welcome to the super late edition of this week's Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt! - in which I once again had to take pictures under artificial lighting because it's winter and while I love winter, the sun is just not around enough.

Three coats with top coat. I could have applied another one, I guess; it is pretty opaque at three coats, but I can still see ridge problems, so it doesn't look very even. Anyway, I discovered that this has ultra fine silvery-blueish shimmer in it. I never noticed that! It's hardly detectable, but it's there. Interesting surprise. Also, I don't like this color on me. It's a little more orange in real life than in the picture. I think it just looks weird. Also, hello there little bubble! I had to shake the polish because it had been standing around for quite a while, so there were bubbles. I don't really care though, there's only that one and it's hardly noticeable.

[Swatch] P2 Limited Edition Mirror Mirror. On The Wall - glam supreme lipsticks

Hey guys!

I recently came across this LE and while I, of course, picked up the highly-coveted nail polish "sensual purple", my eyes also drifted towards the lipsticks. After swatching them quickly I knew I wanted to purchase them, too, so let's have a look.

First of all, I like the design of the packaging. Quite cool, even though it's just plastic. Downside: You can see every little fingerprint on these tubes. The colors are rosé passion (top) and red obsession (bottom). Both of them are very pigmented and glide on smoothly; they smell faintly of that "make-up scent", but you'll hardly notice it. Great quality for a great price right here.

[Swatch] Rival de Loop Limited Edition perfect style - Perfect Rainbow (ABCDEFinishes)

Hey guys!

This week's theme is duochrome, and I have a great one to show you alright. Even though it's technically multichrome, but as everyone who got their misuse of a word pointed out to them has ever said: "Semantics!"

Two coats with top coat. This shifts so beautifully, but it can be hard to catch that on camera sometimes. Also, this wasn't really 100% opaque, because the base seems to be clear and just filled with colored, multichromatic flecks.

[Swatch] Catrice Limited Edition Rocking Royals - nail polishes, lipstick, eyeliner

Hey guys!

Today's post might as well be entitled "guess who went crazy on a Catrice LE". I picked lots of stuff, so let's check it out together, shall we?

Ex Pistols

Two coats, no top coat. These all dry to a matt finish! I was surprised. I had expected some sort of sand polish or something similar, but not this. Also, I love the color! I put it straight back on after I'd finished swatching. What's even funnier, I picked this up although I didn't really like it. I'm not a huge fan of gold tones, so I didn't expect much at all from this one, and it blew me away. Nice.

Royal Blue

Two coats, no top coat. My second favorite, without a doubt. Really vibrant, don't you think? It screams New Year's Eve to me.

Emerald Queen

Two coats, no top coat. Again, a really pretty one. A great shade of green, lovely finish. These all look quite nice shiny, too, but I actually prefer them matt.

Of Royal Blood

Two coats, no top coat. Now this is a not-so-favorite; it applies a little patchy because it dries pretty fast, so the surface is kind of uneven. I still think it's kind of cool to have a "naturally" matt red, though.

lipstick "Of Royal Blood"

I love the design of this LE, don't you? The crown emblem is really cool in my opinion. The lipstick applies nicely and isn't really shiny, but not truly matt either. I guess that's what people call a semi-matt. Based on the name, I had expected a deep, blood kind of red, but this is actually pretty heavy on the purple - though not as much as the other lipstick in the LE (called Pink Punk).

eyeliner "Velvet Black"

This has a felt tip, as you can see. It gives you quite nice control. Don't ask why I wrote love, because I don't know. Okay, so let me tell you something about this eyeliner: This rubs off within half a second as soon as it gets wet. That really disappointed me, because on the back of the little bottle it even says something like "long-wearing". An eyeliner that can be so easily removed with water is definitely not long-wearing... WTF, Catrice? Anyway, just keep that in mind when considering whether or not you would like to purchase this item.

I also got the liplocking base, but I haven't tried it out yet. It looks like a lip balm in a skinny tube. The only nail polish I didn't get is the plummy purple - it's just not my color (the name is the same as for the second lipstick, Pink Punk). So, any favorites?
