[Swatch] Orly - Meet Me Under The Mistletoe

Hey guys!

I know it's a little late for Christmas-themed everything, but this can be worn all year round if you ask me! Check out the beauty of this green.

Two coats with top coat. I like top picture better, I think this polish doesn't need sunlight to show its awesomeness! I'm not too much into greens, but I really like this one, more so than I thought, actually. I was influenced by Elena here, she has beautiful swatches of this one.

[Swatch] various essence new standard range nail polishes

Hey guys!

Today we're checking out some of essence's new additions to their standard range - glitter toppers included! So here we go.

hello marshmallow!

Two coats with top coat. It has very well hidden blue shimmer. A nice lilac color.

prom-berry

One coat with top coat. I like the shimmer but probably already have at least five other polishes that look very similar.

miss universe

Two coats, I think, with top coat. I wish the duochrome effect you can see in the bottle were visible on the nails. Same old story as with many other duochromes.

that's what i mint!

Two coats with top coat. I feel this need to be compared to essie's Mint Candy Apple. I think this is lighter, though; possibly also more blue-toned. It has hardly visible silver shimmer.

cool breeze

over (top to bottom/left to right) Sally Hansen - Tickle Me Pink, Manhattan - 1010N (black creme),
essence - miss universe and essence - prom-berry

Doesn't this look so awesome over miss universe? Definitely my favorite of the four combinations I tried. I feel like there's not enough glitter pieces in this polish, though. You get a whole lot of base, but not many glitter pieces, which I really do not like. It would take ages to dry. Too bad, really. I heard this was supposed to be the replacement for night in vegas, for which essence no longer had a supplier of glitter flakes. This could never ever replace night in vegas. Seriously. Just... no.
glitter on me

One coat over that's what i mint!. I was incredibly surprised by how much I like this combination. I'm completely in love, guys.

What do you think about these?

[Swatch] essence and Manhattan matt lip creams

Hey guys!

I'm in love with Matt! It's true, we're thinking about tying the knot soon.

Naw, I'm just messin' with ya ;) Matt lip products seem to be quite the rage these days - essence just introduced four shades in cream form. Manhattan, in turn, is kicking their soft mat (this is not a typo) lip creams out of the standard range. Time for a little comparison, right?

left to right: essence Smooth Berry, essence Silky Red, Manhattan 54L, Manhattan 56K

freshly applied

"dried"

I left all of these on my hand for about an hour I'd say. The essence ones never really turned matt, and I have no explanation for that. They are all nicely pigmented, above you can see one application, meaning I did not go back into the tube to get more product.
Unfortunately I cannot test them on the lips at the moment because I have some kind of infection and I doubt slapping lipgloss on it will do it any good. Plus, possibly, bacteria - no thanks. If you'd like to see lip swatches let me know and I will do them at a later time when my lip is healed.
Another thing worth noting is that, when I tried to wash these off, the essence ones smeared all over the place when I rubbed at them with my hand. I had to use soap and scrub to get them off completely. I hope I won't have to do that on the lips...
I have tried the Manhattan ones on the lips before and be warned that they are quite drying. As they dry and turn matt they might crack a little where you have lines in your lips, but it's not too bad.
All of these have a doe foot applicator. The Manhattan ones are just under four bucks with 6.5 ml/~ 0.20 fl. oz (it doesn't give a number for fl. oz on the packaging, so I sort of guess-timated here), the essence ones just under two with 4 ml/0.13 fl. oz of product. While you can keep the Manhattan lip creams for 24 months, the essence ones are only good for six. Both companies have scented their lip creams - Manhattan's smell like vanilla- or caramel-flavored coffee, while essence's just smell of caramel to me, with a note of something else I can't quite identify and probably am not meant to.

I'll definitely get some more of the Manhattan soft mat lip creams before they leave the range, I really like them. Why you kick them out, Manhattan?!

What are your thoughts on matt lip products?

[Swatch] essence - cookie love

Hey guys!

This is sort of a brother or sister to boho chic. More brown instead of orange, less irregular-sized and -shaped glitter. I still got them mixed up - I actually got boho chic by accident, meaning to grab cookie love. Captain Derp strikes again! I promise I got it right for this post, though.

Two coats with top coat. The bigger gold glitter pieces aren't quite as obvious in this as in boho chic. And this is why I should never wear brown ever. I really don't like how this looks on me too much. It just seems weird to me. Most "warm" colors do, actually. Anyway. If you want to grab this, you gotta be quick - it is not included in essence's 2013 Spring/Summer product range, which is hitting stores at the moment.

What's your opinion on brown polishes - yay or nay?

[Swatch] Sally Hansen complete Salon Manicure Sorbet Soirée Limited Edition nail polish Tickle Me Pink

Hey guys!

As opposed to most brands' spring collections, Sorbet Soirée is not made up of pastel only shades. I think it could work just as well as a summer collection. Today's extra: a taste of my weird sense of humor. Let's get started, shall we?

Two coats with top coat. You have to imagine this more vivid than it is in the photo - it's definitely a hot pink. If there is a pun in the name, I don't get it. Is it something like "tickle me until I get red in the face from laughing"? Or... I don't know. I think this should be called "Tickle My Pink-le". I laughed.

Do you think I'm weird yet?

[Swatch] Catrice - Steel My Soul

Hey guys!

This polish is gonna leave Catrice's standard range in March, so I thought I'd show it now while you can still go out and get it :)

Two coats, no top coat. It's meant to be worn without top coat to keep the matt effect. Catrice calls this "brushed metal effect". I'm not so sure if that's the expression I'd use, but well. I prefer this with top coat, though. The golden shimmer just comes to life so much more with top coat and I think it makes the polish look prettier.

What do you think of the "brushed metal effect"?

[Swatch] Sally Hansen complete Salon Manicure new standard range shades Hidden Treasure and Shoot the Moon

Hey guys!

I'm late with this but since we're not talking limited edition here, I think it's excusable. Right? I've had these two for a while already but didn't post them. Only god knows why, but well. Here they are now.

Hidden Treasure

top: I believe this was three coats with top coat. VERY SHEER.
bottom: pointer to pinky - three coats by itself, one coat over essie fiji, one coat over essie funny face, one coat over essie lights
And correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't there already two polishes with this name? I really hate when names get recycled like that.
Shoot the Moon

Two coats with top coat. Chanel Graphite dupe, anyone? I think it might be. Whether or not it is, I really like it.

What do you think of name-recycling? Catrice is quite famous for having used the name "Sold Out Forever" for three different polishes now, creating a bit of confusion along the way.

[Swatch] L'Oréal Les Top Coats - Confettis

Hey guys!

L'Oréal recently came out with a collection of effect top coats of which only one really caught my attention. I was debating with myself over Lurex for a bit when I was at the store, but decided I didn't need another gold glittery polish; I didn't really know what I'd do with it, so I left it where it was.

over Catrice "Discreet Artist"

over Catrice "Dance In Gion"

over Catrice "Planet Tokyo"

All pictures with one coat (and a little bit of rearranging of the glitter pieces) of Confettis and top coat. I really like this, it's fun to play with. If you look closely you can see that it has blue-greenish shimmer, but it's not really visible very well. The name irks me a bit because when I think of confetti, it's not black and white, but yeah. Whatever!

over various

blue: essie "butler please"; red: Catrice "Madam Butterfly"; turquoise: misslyn "pool party"; pink: Sally Hansen "Tickle Me Pink"; yellow: Catrice "Little Miss Sunshine"

How do you like this? What would you layer it over?

Mani ideas for Valentine's Day

Hey guys!

You know who loves Valentine's Day? Florists! Here are some ideas for manis you can wear in celebration of or protest against Valentine's Day. I'll say it now before anyone can complain I didn't warn them - there's lots of pink.

left to right:
models own "Dancing Queen" over Maybelline Color Show by Colorama "Charged And Ready";
models own "Freak Out!" over Maybelline Color Show by Colorama "Marinho";
essence "Crazy In Love" over essence "hello marshmallow!";
essence "cool breeze" sandwiched between Zoya "Paloma";
essence "Space Queen" over Zoya "Paloma"

left to right:
essence "time for romance" over Zoya "Paloma";
essence "Sunshine And Red Roses" Zoya "Paloma";
models own "Boogie Nights" over P2 "love connection";
essence "time for romance" over P2 "love connection"

I admit the non-pink choices are very limited, but really, you can do whatever you want. It's just February 14th, okay? ;)

[Swatch] P2 I feel pretty Limited Edition nail polishes

Hey guys!

P2 currently has a limited edition with a very cute design called "I feel pretty". I'm not a fan of the name I gotta say, but well. Let's see what the colors for the three polishes included in the limited edition look like!

mocca splash
Two coats with top coat. This is very nude on me. A brownish beige with rosy tones. I wonder if this might be a dupe or cousin of OPI's "My Very First Knockwurst" (that name is pretty weird to me).

candy cane
Two coats with top coat. An almost neon orange. Not the color of candy canes at all if you ask me, but well.

toffee cream
Two coats with top coat. A reddish brown that doesn't remind me of toffee at all. I feel like mocca splash and toffee cream should have switched names.

For a LE with that name, I would have expected other colors. My favorite has to be mocca splash, but it makes my hands look like there are no nails on them, so a little weird. What are your thoughts?

[Swatch] Catrice Absolute Eye Colour no. 640 Don't Touch My Mosserati!

Hey guys!

Catrice is currently introducing their spring and summer product range to stores and as I browsed the new colors, I was particularly hooked by this gorgeous eyeshadow that I just knew I HAD to turn into nail polish. Check it out!

You can't see the unbelievable gold shimmer as much as I wish you could but OH MY GOD GUYS. This is so beautiful in person! If you have the chance definitely check it out, swatch it, and be blown away. I don't even particularly like neither dark greens nor gold and I am amazed by this beauty.

Anything from the new Catrice range you're looking forward to checking out "live"?

[Swatch] essence Trend Edition hugs & kisses glitter toppers

Hey guys!

I almost feel guilty showing you these since they have been swept from stores quicker than you can say "glitter". I haven't seen a single bottle anywhere since I bought mine - people are going crazy over these mini polishes. Which was to be expected, really, but still. Holy cow. Anyway, let's see what all the fuss is about, shall we?

More Than Words

Dreams For Sale

Crazy In Love

Sunshine And Red Roses

You will need to fish around a little for the glitter particles, thus I can't give you an individual number of coats for the glitter toppers. All of them are swatched on black for comparison purposes. I had to change up the usual angle for the pictures to show you all the glittery goodness. I like these, but I'm disappointed that the bottles are so small. Five ml/0.16 fl oz isn't exactly a lot, and while that might be good sometimes, it makes me a little nervous, if you will, when it comes to glitter. Anyway, I like them all a lot, except Crazy In Love which I feel is just not on par with the three others.

What do you think - worth the hype or overrated?

[Swatch] Catrice Neo Geisha Limited Edition nail polishes and lip and cheek colours Madam Butterfly and Picked Cherry Blossoms

Hey guys!

Today I have a sort of double feature for you - nail polishes and blush/lip colors! They are from one of Catrice's current LEs entitled "Neo Geisha". Of course I couldn't resist with a name like that...

nail polishes

from left to right: Discreet Artist, Picked Cherry Blossoms, Madam Butterfly, Dance In Gion, Planet Tokyo

Discreet Artist

Three coats with top coat. Because of the nature of the surface of my nails, it's always a little hard for me to get slightly translucent polishes like this one to even out. I think this is very similar to "Cotton Candy At Eiffel Tower" from the Ultimate Nudes line; I haven't compared them yet, though.

Picked Cherry Blossoms

Two coats with top coat. This has pinkish-orangey shimmer but it's hardly visible at all. Even in the bottle you have to look pretty closely or hold it near a light source to be able to detect it. Shame.

Madam Butterfly

Two coats with top coat. This is an amazingly beautiful red. I'm head over heels for it. It's so deep and rich!

Dance In Gion

Two coats with top coat. I usually go nuts for purples, but this one was kind of boring - or just paled a little in comparison to how blown away I was by Madam Butterfly. It's still a pretty shade, though.

Planet Tokyo

Two coats with top coat. Now I have no idea what a bright grass green has to do with Geisha - that's why I'd rather think the shade was chosen with the name in mind. I do find the in-your-face-green quite befitting for Tokyo. Especially when I think of Shibuya, this color seems appropriately named.

Check out the lip and cheek colours after the jump!

[Swatch] essence - boho chic

Hey guys!

Don't forget: You have three more hours to participate in my bloggiversary giveaway! And now on to the polish goodness :)

Today I'm showing you a polish whose color isn't typically up my alley. This one drew me in with other qualities, though. See for yourself!

Two coats with top coat. Do you see those irregularly-shaped gold glitter pieces? I really like that type of glitter. I wish there were more polishes with random-sized and -shaped glitter. I think it's a really interesting twist on the "ordinary" glitter (which, of course, most of us love).

What do you think about irregularly-shaped and -sized glitter?

[Swatch] L'Oréal - Luxembourggarden

Hey guys!

First off, don't forget to check out my bloggiversary giveaway! And now on to the polish goodness :)

Today we have another green-ish polish that found its way into my collection; the name irks me a little because of the double "g", but well. Thankfully, I don't have to look at the label all the time!

I don't remember the number of coats, unfortunately. I'm thinking it was two or three, plus top coat. I'm not sure how I feel about the color. It's a green-ish grey with beautiful shimmer. It looks a little dirty due to the grey tones. The first time I wanted to swatch this it was a disaster to put on, but I have no idea why I struggled so much with it. I already used up quite a bit of the polish just trying to get it on okay. It's not hard to apply per se, but sometimes I struggle a bit with broad brushes. Too small or too big can be difficult to handle. Anyway.

What do you think about this polish? Do you like the dirty grey-ish green color?
