[Swatch] Catrice Limited Edition Cucuba - Take It Mint (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

I'm going through a bit of a rough patch lately, so I'm sorry for not saying much.

Two coats with top coat. I think there's a bit of a yellow undertone to this which, for some reason, reminds me of 50ies US diner interior. Don't ask. Sorry about the bluriness, I had to take this just when the sun was setting so the camera wouldn't focus properly.

[Swatch] Catrice - How I Matt Your Mother (ABCDEFinishes)

Hey guys!

Who's ready for some last minute posting? This week's theme is "Brushed Metal".

Two coats without top coat. I will never understand why Catrice calls this a "brushed metal effect". I've seen some actual brushed metal and nothing about this polish reminds me of it. But whatever, right?

[Swatch] P2 - classy

Hey guys!

Remember when I showed you butter London's The Black Knight? I think I found one of his cousins...

Two coats, no top coat. It's less sparkly than The Black Knight, but its base is more pigmented, so it covers better. I actually layered The Black Knight over this on my ring finger nail, just to see what it would look like and it was pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

P2 - precious

Hey guys!

I know, I know - another sand polish. But to be honest (I hate using that phrase, since I read once that it kind of implies that you're usually lying, which, as much as I don't necessarily want to, I have to agree with) I'm done apologizing for showing a ton of sand polishes. I like them, I'll show them. So there's that...

Two coats, no top coat. I like that it looks quite elegant and not over the top even though it has glitter in it. Aah, I just really love it!

[Swatch] essence sparkle sand effect nail polishes - here's my number, me & my lover and hey, nude!

Hey guys!

I wanted to post these forever ago but somehow it just didn't work out, there was always something else I wanted to show. I'm sure you've seen these everwhere, from every angle and in every lighting imaginable already, but I have these photos sitting here and they're just begging me to finally be shown, so here we go.

here's my number

Two coats, no top coat. I tried to take the second photo as an indoors shot but it didn't come out quite right. I'm often having difficulty finding a spot to take good photos in when it's really sunny. Anyway, I really like this, the holographic particles make it really pretty in my opinion. My camera always cancels out any glares, so it can be hard to photograph holo effects...

me & my lover

Two coats, no top coat. This is a vibrant red with gold flecks in it, which I really liked. There's also a pink shimmer to it, I think you can somewhat see it in the picture. As you can see the essence sand polishes don't dry to a completely matt finish.

hey, nude!

Two coats, no top coat. This is not quite my cup of tea, although I do find the color concept pretty. I just wish it were opaque - in principle, it is quite pretty, though.

[Swatch] youstar - Anne Teak (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

For this week we are gonna look at bordeaux polishes. Once again, I went to Wikipedia just to look up if the color I chose would be at least somewhat within the range. I also ended up liking it more than I thought I would, so let's see it!

Three coats with top coat. It's a little jelly-like in texture and I couldn't get it nice and even with two coats, so I added a third one. I was surprised at how much I liked the look of it on my nails! If you're wondering about the label I put on there, the name is nowhere on the bottle and I wanted to take this out of the box it came in. The names of the mini polishes from the set were only on the box - WTF? - and so I thought I'd just write them on pieces of paper and tape those to the bottle handles. Bit annoying, but what are you gonna do.

[Swatch] China Glaze - Boo-Gie Down (over Priti NYC - Cotton Sprig)

Hey guys!

I showed Cotton Sprig a while ago - in the same parcel I also received Boo-Gie Down, and the two just seemed to match nicely, so I layered them. Let's have a look.

Photo is with top coat. As usual with chunky glitter, you need to push the pieces around a little here and there and all that jazz. I really liked this combo! Boo-Gie Down reminds me strongly of the polishes in the Glitz Bitz 'n Pieces collection, I guess they're cousins. It also, for some reason, reminds me of coffee. Don't ask.

Manhattan Limited Edition Beauty In The Air Intense Lip And Cheek Balm - Fly Me Pretty

Hey guys!

Today I'm showing you a lip product. Or rather, a lip and cheek product. I didn't test it on the cheeks though. In any case, this is sort of a Manhattan dupe for the Chubby Stick Intense by Clinique, I suppose. Let's see it, shall we?

I love this color! I've been looking for a dusty kind of pink and this fits that bill quite nicely. It's intense, it goes on smooth, feels very nice and not drying on the lips. The price point is just around EUR 4, so quite affordable (and dirt cheap compared to the Clinique Chubby Stick Intense balms). There are two more colors in this LE, an orange and a more purple one.

[Swatch] Illamasqua Paranormal Collection - Séance (ABCDEFinishes)

Hey guys!

I was sorta invited by Allie to participate in a new series she's doing in collab with Nana called ABCDEFinishes - and you guessed it, this is mostly about the different finishes of nail polish. There's a new theme every week, and since it follows the letters of the alphabet, there are 26 themes. The new theme is first introduced every Tuesday. This week's theme is "außergewöhnlich", which basically means "extraordinary". And man, do I have a polish to show you for that...

Two coats without top coat - as you can see, it dries matt. So this thing glows under UV light. Yep. Unfortunately, I don't have one of those. What I do have, though, is another polish from the Paranormal Collection. It's a UV-glow top coat called "Geist" (which, incidentally, is "ghost" in German) that glows blue under UV light. I keep hoping I can wear either of these two to a club or something and then see the effect in person, but I'm not sure it's ever gonna happen. Anyway, this is my pick for a polish that is definitely out of the ordinary.

[Swatch] essence Limited Edition Metal Glam - Petal To The Metal and Steel-Ing The Scene

Hey guys!

So the metallic finish isn't necessarily my favorite of finishes. That being said, I couldn't resist picking up these two polishes, so before I make you roll your eyes any more, let's just look at them, shall we?

Petal To The Metal

Two coats with top coat. I like the color, I just don't like the finish. I don't know what it is about the metallic finish, but most times, I just don't really like it. Maybe because for me, it has a very strong 90ies vibe to it. I just don't know... The color itself is quite pretty though, it seems like a very light lilac sort of tone. I'm very on the fence about this polish...

Steel-Ing The Scene (over Petal To The Metal)

This gold top coat is basically shards of gold foil (not real gold, obviously) in a clear base. The gold color is a very light one, unfortunately. To me, it looks super-cheap and not pretty at all. Maybe it'll look nicer layered over other colors. Any suggestions?

[Swatch] Catrice Limited Edition Arts Collection - eye and face palettes

Hey guys!

Today I bring you something a little out of the ordinary. I know my blog mostly consists of nail polish swatches, with the odd lip product thrown in here and there. I usually don't buy other make-up, but these palettes sucked me in and well, here I am.

First off, all of these palettes come with six eyeshadows, a blush, a highlighter, a miniature eye pencil and a double-ended brush-and-sponge-tip applicator. None of the products have individual names, which I find kind of sad. All of them contain shimmer or sparkle, so if you're looking for something matt, these are not for you. There are three nail polishes to go with them, which I will show you very soon. The colors/designs were inspired by different eras in the history of art.

[Swatch] essie - To Buy Or Not To Buy (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

This week's installment of "Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!" calls for all those lovely shades of lilac! As you can probably imagine, this is the perfect theme for me. I had a bit of a hard time choosing from my approximately 1263051636 lilac/lavender polishes, but in the end, I was quite satisfied with my pick, so let's see it!

Three coats with top coat. I don't know why, but with essie crèmes I often need three coats to even the surface out. They seem to like to slip over my ridges more than other crème polishes... Anyway, this has blue shimmer which you can hardly see, although it's quite obvious in the bottle IRL. It might be more obvious with more light or sunshine hitting it, but I had to take these photos on an overcast day. This was part of essie's Navigate Her collection for spring 2012, by the way.

product test with Pretty Nail Shop 24

Hey guys!

Quite a while ago I was asked if I wanted to do a product test with Pretty Nail Shop 24 (not an affiliate link, just for your convenience). I was wary at first - why would someone approach the owner of a fairly unknown blog like mine? - but I was also very excited, so I tentatively replied affirmatively. After a few e-mails back and forth I chose some products from the store, the total cost of which came in at just under EUR 16. I DID NOT PAY FOR THESE PRODUCTS - THEY WERE PROVIDED TO ME ENTIRELY FREE OF CHARGE. I am not being paid to do this review. The only "condition" this is tied to is that I write this review. If you have any questions pertaining to this post or the topic in general I would be happy to answer them. Now let's see what I picked, shall we?

Catrice Limited Edition Thrilling Me Softly Wet Shine Stain Long-Lasting Lip Lacquer - Thrilling

Hey guys!

First off, wow, that title. Second, I hope you can still find this in stores when this post goes up since I know that this product is probably the most sought-after in the whole LE.

As you can see, this has fine gold sparkle in it. Be careful when applying this - althought the texture is gel-like, the applicator doesn't give you the greatest control. It can get quite patchy, but I found that after smacking my lips together a bit, the problem disappeared, so I got the result you see above.

Maybe use a lipliner to avoid feathering, you can see the product settling into my lip lines and also the fine lines outside a little in the photo. The lacquer smells chemical at first, but thankfully the smell doesn't last very long. It doesn't have any kind of taste to it. The feeling when you wear this is not necessarily unpleasant, but the lacquer is sticky, like lipglosses used to be (and some still are!).

I left it on my lips for a few minutes, then wiped it off. I didn't notice any staining, but I guess I didn't have it on long enough for that to happen. The lacquer has great shine to it and the sparkle isn't visible in person, in case you were afraid of that - it really only shows in my photos because they're close-ups.

Another thing I noticed: When I applied this product, it felt a little cool at first, but then I felt a burning sensation in some places that disappeared again after a few seconds. I'm guessing this was because my lips are almost always chapped and maybe the product got on a patch of split skin, I don't know. After that I didn't feel anything weird while wearing the lacquer.

Update on October 14: I put this on once more yesterday and left it on for about an hour, then thouroughly wiped it off. I did notice a little bit of staining, but mostly in my lip lines, and that's not necessarily something I want.

[Comparison] essence - glorious aquarius old version vs essence - glorious aquarius new version

Hey guys!

With essence's fall/winter range they also released a new version of their glitter topper "glorious aquarius", which they now call a "3D glitter" - whatever that means. Of course I had to pick it up - and I can tell you, it doesn't have much in common with the previous version aside from the name. But let's look at it together, shall we?

old bottle - new bottle

I applied these over Priti NYC "Spring Gentian", which I will show you solo very soon. Old version on pointer and ring fingers, new version on middle and pinky fingers, no top coat. Not much similarity, eh? They're both pretty to me, I just wish essence had come up with an own name for the new version - especially since the old version is much more "aquarius-y" to me.

When I see recycled names, I always think of the disaster Catrice has made of "Sold Out Forever". I have THREE versions of that polish in my stash. I mean, WTF? I just don't like name recycling...

[Swatch] essie Limited Edition russian roulette - not just a pretty face, muchi, muchi and russian roulette

Hey guys!

So essie's still current LE features five polishes - I know that three of them (russian roulette, fishnet stockings, stylenomics) have been available before. In any case, here are my picks.

not just a pretty face

This is three coats, I believe, with top coat. A sheer, beige-toned nude. The more I look at it the more I regret getting it, I really don't like it too much on me.
muchi, muchi

This is also three coats if I remember correctly, with top coat. It's sort of the pinky sister of "not just a pretty face". Much nicer on me, in my opinion.
russian roulette

Two coats with top coat. A vibrant, orange-toned red. It has a jelly-like formula and remains ever so slightly see-through at two coats, I think. You need to be really close to your nails to see it, though.

[Swatch] P2 Limited Edition Beauty Stories - vibrant chestnut

Hey guys!

You know it's definitely fall when every LE you see contains some sort of brown or dark green polish... With this, I actually felt compelled to buy a brown polish! Unbelievable, I know. The beautiful shimmer is to blame, but enough talk, let's see it!

Two coats with top coat. Beautiful golden-bronzy shimmer right there. I won't say "perfect for fall", because although we're only barely into October, I'm already immensely sick of that phrase. And anyway, I'm not a great believer in wearing certain colors only or mostly during certain seasons. I'll wear whatever I like and am in the mood for any time of the year.

[Swatch] nubar - Silver Sword (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

Sorry I'm slacking with this series lately. I'm gonna try and be more consistent with it again. This week's color is anthracite, so let's check it out.

Two coats with top coat. A metallic color which, for me, lies between grey and black - just like anthracite should be in my opinion! Even though this is a metallic finish, I like it quite a lot. It also seems to have a bit of a blue sheen to it, but maybe that's just because of the sky reflecting off it a little.

[Swatch] Astor Fashion Studio Fall Collection Changing Metal Effect - Sophisticated Gold, Cooper King and Crystal Blue

Hey guys!

Astor's Fashion Studio fall collection is 6/9 about duochromes and multichromes, which are a rarity in drugstores in general, but actually nicely shifting duochromes are even harder to find, even outside the drugstore. I picked up three shades that drew me in, and let me tell you, these are great. Let's look at them together, shall we?

Sophisticated Gold

Swatched over black, with top coat. Do you see that shift? Wow. I originally wanted to swatch it side by side both by itself and over black, but noticed that it's quite sheer on its own, so I went for the "over black only" approach. The number of coats you wanna apply really depends on if you can make it nice and smooth with the first or if you have to fix up a few spots here and there with a second coat. Also, you can pretty clearly see brushstrokes here.

Cooper King and Crystal Blue

Swatched over black, with top coat. Cooper King on pointer and ring fingers, Crystal Blue on middle and pinky fingers. That shift is AMAZING! Wow. Look at that last picture... Once again, you may need two coats to make it nice and even. With all of these, the effect will be more apparent with more (sun)light hitting all the shimmery goodness.

[Swatch] alessandro - Be my Angel (belated Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

So as you know, I had to pass on Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt! last week - meh! I had already picked a polish, but somehow I didn't get around to putting it on and taking pictures, so that was that. I still want to show you my pick, though, so here we go.

Two coats, no top coat. The bottle already tells you - this is a matt polish. And even though you can see a few not-so-perfectly covered spots, I still love the look of this. I couldn't resist trying it out with top coat though...

I just think the shimmer looks so pretty! I would totally wear this, how about you?

[Swatch] Priti NYC - Cotton Sprig

Hey guys!

A while ago I was shopping at one of my favorite stores online and took the plunge of ordering a 3-piece surprise set of Priti NYC polishes. Elena shows quite a lot from this brand, but the price always kinda put me off trying it myself, so this set really came in handy. I actually ordered a 6-piece surprise set just a few days ago because my first experience was so good. At first I wasn't too thrilled about this brown polish - as you might know I'm not exactly head over heels for brown tones - but it surprised me! Let's look at it, shall we?

Two coats with top coat. This is definitely much prettier than I'd expected. The silver shimmer compliments the brown nicely, to my surprise!

German Unity Day 2013

Hey guys!

Remember my post from last year? Yeah. I wanted to do a little design or special polish combo again this year, let's check it out!

I used a simple black polish by Manhattan, OPI's Danke-Shiny Red (how fitting, right?) and OPI's Oy - Another Polish Joke (this one needed a ton of coats, wow). The flag I did with stripers by flormar and Milani. All with top coat except for the pinky, since I didn't want to smudge the design which happens easily to me with stripers.

[Swatch] Catrice - Welcome To Roosywood (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

After having to pass on last week's "Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!" I'm back this week to participate again, yay! I just really love this weekly thing, you know. Without further ado, here's my pick.

Two coats with top coat. It's reminiscent of Karl Says Très Chic, don't you think? I quite like it, but I also have to admit it's the first time I've tried it.
