Sally Hansen "satin Glam" collection

Hey guys!

I have to put a little disclaimer on this: These are the satin glam polishes that are available in Germany. I know that the US got two more colors, which is totally unfair, by the way. That being said, let's see these pretties!

To make this less repetitive, I'm just gonna say it now: All of these are two coats, no top coat.

Go Gold

Pink Chic

Teal Tulle

Silk Onyx

Tafetta

Crystalline

I really like these, though I'd prefer "Crystalline" with a bit more pigmentation. Thoughts?

That's not how you pronounce mannequin (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

This week is all about petrol polishes. Now, I have to say... I don't have a lot of those. And sometimes I'm not 100% sure where the line between petrol and dark turquoise is. So maybe what I'm gonna show you is actually turquoise, I don't know. If I go by Google, I should still be safe, lol!

Two coats of youstar "Manny Kinn", with top coat. Petrol? Turquoise? You decide. Either way, it's a mini with a terrible pun as a name.

Rival de Loop "Glitter Sensation" Limited Edition - nail polishes

Hey guys!

Today I present to you an LE that would have fit far better into the time around New Year's - in my opinion, at least. But since we're talking glitter nail polish, I'm not gonna complain.

01

Never mind the unbelievably creative name. This is two coats with top coat. The black jelly base is filled with silver and holographic glitter in two sizes. Probably best layered over black or a similarly dark color.

02

Two coats with top coat. This has a blue jelly base with small holographic and big blue glitter in it. Interesting combination.

03
I think this is intended as a topper, so I layered it over a selection of colors to see what effects I would get. I quite like the results, I have to say! Shown is one coat of "03" (again with the creative names) over each base color, with top coat.

over essence "it's raining men!"

over Catrice "I'm so aNude"

over essence "a hint of love"

essence - a lovely secret (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

I have a secret that isn't quite so lovely. And now that I think about it, it's not really a secret, either: I'm late with this! Not too late, but still late. And for lilac of all colors! Well, let's just get right into it...

Two coats plus top coat. In the bottle, this has pink shimmer, but on the nail, it doesn't show up. Instead, you get some sort of darker purple particles. Which, I mean, it's a cool effect, but not what I expected.

Rival de Loop Young "Safari look" Limited Edition - nail polishes

Hey guys!

Seeing this LE took me a little by surprise, but I guess the brand isn't that popular with the bloggers I follow, so nobody posted about it before it came out. Anyway, let me show you the three nail polishes included!

green crocodile

Two coats with top coat. I didn't expect these to be metallics! From the bottle I just assumed they were shimmery. So that was a surprise... They're also all a bit different in hue on the nail than in the bottle.

shiny bronze

Two coats with top coat. Here you can also see the velours powder thingy that is part of the LE. I shook it out of the container, but that didn't really cover all of my nail, especially the sides near the skin, so I just grabbed bunches of fluff and pressed them on the nail.

desert rose

Two coats with top coat. If I had to pick a favorite, this would be it. All in all, the quality of these is pretty good - I haven't tested their wear, though. That'd be kinda futile anyway, since nothing can withstand my nails for more than about 12 hours. I have to admit that I would've preferred them to be shimmers. Maybe these lend themselves well to stamping?

Fake it 'til you make it - Maybelline - Wine Shimmer over essence - Inkheart

Hey guys!

So you have probably heard of Zoya's Zenith collection. I really wanted Dream and Payton, but long story short they were sold out before I was ready to order them. Then a little while ago I saw someone post really pretty pictures of Maybelline's Wine Shimmer, and although I had seen it before, it never wowed me until then. So I got it. On the same day, I first spotted the essence Love Letters LE and picked up those polishes as well. On a whim I decided to combine Wine Shimmer and Inkheart (the dark blue polish in the Love Letters LE) and the result kinda amazed me, so I wanted to share.

This is one coat of Wine Shimmer over two coats of Inkheart. I know it doesn't look 100% like Payton, but it's probably as close as I'm gonna get for now. It definitely inspired me to try some other layerings with Wine Shimmer. Any suggestions?

Maybelline Limited Edition "Stripped Nudes" - Bronze Me Up

Hey guys!

In the flood of new things that are coming out at the moment I spotted this. I thought it might be a dupe for copper diamond, but I don't think it is after all! Anyway, let's check it out.

Shown here over misslyn "attitude". I quite like the combo! Any suggestions for other layerings?

Astor "Black & White" collection - nail polishes

Hey guys!

When I went to the drugstore a while ago I was really surprised to find a new Astor LE on display. Of course I had to check out the polishes!

Check Matte

As you can see, this is a matte black. I don't know what is wrong with it, though, because - as you can also see - it kept cracking. I applied three coats and each one cracked. What is this nonsense?

Game of Graphics

This seems to be similar to (or even a dupe for) China Glaze's "Whirled Away". It's quite hard to get enough glitter pieces on the nail, and then distribute them at least somewhat evenly. You're putting a lot of the clear base down, but not that much glitter, which is something I really hate. Not impressed - again. This is over misslyn "ballet".

Play The Graffiti

We've seen tons of this sort of "salt and pepper" glitter combo already, so this is not all too special. I still like it, though, and it goes on without me having to dip back in the bottle multiple times or having to push the glitter around a lot. Shown here over misslyn "standing ovations".

Bold and Seductive (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

This week's theme is bordeaux! Now I have a pretty specific color in mind when I think bordeaux, and not many nail polishes I have fit the bill. Anyway, let's see my pick, shall we?

Two coats of LCN "Bold Bordeaux", with P2 sand style in "seductive" as accent. "Bold Bordeaux" is kind of hard to get even, and I definitely didn't really succeed, but thankfully it's not too obvious. The lighting makes this look a little more brown-toned and lighter than it really is - it's a deep, plummy sort of red; which is also why it goes so perfectly with "seductive", which is even more on the purple-y, plummy side, with an intense gold and red sparkle. It looks better on me than expected! I think I might wear this some time soon.

misslyn "Prima Ballerina" collection - silk touch nail polishes

Hey guys!

Just a bit after both Lena and I showed some and talked about wanting more satin finish polishes, we get these! Very cool. Of course I had to buy them all. Ahem.

solo artist

I think this was three coats, because it's not very opaque polish. No top coat, of course, to preserve the satin finish. Not really my favorite of the bunch.

attitude

I might've gotten away with two coats for this. Again, no top coat. Unexpectedly, I quite liked this.

ballet

I'm sorry, but once again, I can't remember if I needed two or three coats for this. No top coat, pretty color.

standing ovations

Two or three coats, no top coat. A nice light blue.

Catrice Limited Edition "Crème Fresh" - nail polishes

Hey guys!

I think this is the first LE I've seen whose combination of English and French isn't terrible to me. I got four of the five polishes released with this LE, so let's look at them together!

The Peach Boys

Two coats with top coat here. What does this color have to do with peach, you ask? I have no idea. You can see the shimmer quite nicely in the second picture, which is with flash.

Evergreen 60s

This is also two coats with top coat. Again, the shimmer pops a lot more in the second picture, which I took with flash on.

Another Pink Panther

Again, two coats with top coat. I don't know why, but I love this light bubblegum pink.

Light Your Fire

Two coats with top coat. Just like From Russia With Love, this makes me think 90ies.

There's also a yellow pastel-y polish in this LE, but I'm not a big fan of yellow, so I passed on that.

Earnie & Birdie! Wait, what? (Lacke in Farbe ...und bunt!)

Hey guys!

I was browsing the new Catrice spring/summer range last week and spotted this polish, which of course reminded me of this week's theme in the series - yellow! So I had a closer look at it and saw some really pretty shimmer in it. Long story short, I got it.

Three coats with top coat. Yellows just don't seem to want to cooperate with me. I could have added more coats to try and make this smooth, but three is already quite a lot. Which sounds weird if you keep in mind that most polishes require two coats for good coverage, but still. Especially with my extremely thin nails, all the layers can easily get thicker than the nail you're applying them to. Anyway, it's not too shabby-looking applied, the three coats (or more) bother me a bit, though. Also, the shimmer looks plain silver while in the bottle it's mainly pink, with gold and blue thrown in here and there. Sadface.

essence Limited Edition "Love Letters" - duo eye pencils and nail polishes

Hey guys!

I guess this is fitting with Valentine's Day (don't worry, this will be the last time I mention it) just around the corner. So let's check out that stuff, shall we?

duo eye pencils

As you can see, they have a sponge at one end to blend the color. I feel like it's pretty stiff, but I haven't tried it out in my eye area.

Here are swatches for both of them. As you might be able to see, the tip of "Grey-Headed Lovebird" broke off when I swiped it across my hand. These went on pretty smoothly.

nail polishes

Rosy In Love

I'm not sure anymore if I used two or three coats. I'm inclined to say three, because I found it kinda hard to get it smooth. Top coat definitely helped. I like the color, a pretty, light pink.

I Got A Crush On Blue

Again, I can't remember if two coats were enough to smooth out the surface, but I don't think so. Again, top coat helped enormously. I seem to have a problem with colors that have a lot of white in them, it's always so difficult for me to get them to look nice.

Grey-Headed Lovebird

I think this was two coats? I'm sorry guys, this is all over the place. If you're wondering about the bottle, well. The brush on the original just fell out of the cap and I couldn't get it to stick in there, so I had to pour the polish into a different bottle. This used to be filled with essence gel look top coat. The color isn't my favorite but it's alright.

Dear Peach!

Since this is also one of those white-based pastels, I'm inclined to say this is three coats plus top coat. I'm not sure how I feel about this; objectively, it's pretty, but I can't quite decide whether it works with my skintone.

Inkheart

Two coats with top coat. This is advertised (as you can see) as a sort of stamping polish. I like the color and the name is wonderful, too.

stamping with Inkheart

So I didn't get the "stampy set" that comes with the LE, simply because it didn't appeal to me all that much, but I picked out another essence stamping plate that I already had. I think Inkheart dries up too quickly to be used for stamping. Maybe I'm just too slow, but it didn't work out all that well for me.
